Czechia Flag Mug
The flag of the Czech Republic consists of two stripes of equal width, the lower one being red and the upper one white. Between the stripes on the left side of the flag there is a blue corner. The flag symbolizes national unity, which is so important to a country whose identity has been challenged so many times over the past century. In 1918 an independent Czechoslovakian state was established and at that time we can trace the origin of the present flag. After World War II in 1918, the country’s government was taken over by the Communists and in 1993 Czechoslovakia split into the independent Czech Republic and Slovakia. After the separation, the Czech Republic retained its national flag, and the interpretation of the flag was changed slightly. The blue corner, originally representing Slovakia, today represents Moravia.
